I arranged Beethovenas Coriolan Overture for a small group of instruments, both to honor Beethovenas 250th birthday and to provide a template for the young composers invited to create a new composition as part of the Yale School of Music New Music Workshop in Norfolk, Connecticut. Beethovenas embodiment of tragic social conflict is a particularly timely and inspiring example for younger composers of how such turbulence and struggle might be revealed in music.
