The "Complete Harpsichord Edition" of the works of Heinrich Scheidemann contains many first editions as well as a number of pieces that have been edited for the first time on the basis of all available sources. This group of works is dominated by dances in which Scheidemann seems less inclined to follow in the footsteps of his teacher Sweelinck than to adopt new idioms and developments from other countries (England, France, Italy). Although far more works by Scheidemann have survived for the organ, including the "Motet Colorations" (EB 8455), his works for other keyboard instruments were widely disseminated in northern Germany during his lifetime, as is proven by the many sources.
