This instrumental duet arrangement is written in an expressive way which allows that beautiful melody to soar with some gentle reharmonizations to freshen it. The lower instrument has a walking bass line accompaniment initially, then takes over the melody while the upper instrument has a running flourish. Both parts dramatically cover a full range of 2 1/2 octaves. Unlike many arrangements of this piece which go for bombast, I keep it gentle and quiet with the interest being in the subtle expressive interplay of the two parts. A guaranteed crowd pleaser at any performance.
(Written for my son's Graduation Banquet, proudly performed as a Father-Son duet.)
