Gabrieli's composition serviced political and religious events at St. Mark's Cathedral. The Basilica is known for placing distinct choruses in separate locations around the altar. Cori spezzati allows one group to echo the music played by another for a surround-sound effect.The present video recording was a live benefit concert for the Symphony of Oak Park and River Forest. Jay Friedman, Music Director, celebrated the retirement and career of Adolph "Bud" Herseth, principal trumpet of the Chicago Symphony for 53 years.
