This arrangement was inspired by Schumann's original idea of arranging the orchestral score for cello and string quartet. The present work is intended to help cello students and professional cellists find a smaller ensemble set up when performing this concerto. The main feature of this arrangement is the Tutti sound that a string ensemble can provide, allowing a more effective concertato experience. The use of 9 instruments in the ensemble allows to incorporate all the most prominent woodwind and brass material, giving to the arrangement a very faithful version without compromising texture.

Public performances and recordings are encouraged.
