A capriccio is a freely composed instrumental piece. It probably will remind you of the word capricious, which means "given to sudden and unaccountable changes of mood or behavior." The piece is tuneful and light, but with a nice shift to the relative minor before returning to the light-hearted theme for a dramatic conclusion.
A capriccio is a freely composed instrumental piece. It probably will remind you of the word capricious, which means “given to sudden and unaccountable changes of mood or behavior.” This should give you a pretty good idea of how to perform this piece. It is whimsical in nature. The second section where the main theme changes from a major key to a minor key should be more dark and sinister to contrast the frolicking nature of the rest of the piece. As with all of my pieces for students, you can adjust the tempi and bowings to fit the needs of your students. It has been my pleasure to have the opportunity to write this piece. I hope you and your students enjoy it and find it useful for your program.-LARRY CLARKLakeland, FL 2013.
