This short work is lyrical, within a tonally modern idiom, with a simplebut supportive chordal accompaniment. The style is confident and effect ive, making use of the lower orchestral register of the double bass. 'Cantilena Semplice was written for the Double Bass 2000 project, and is suitable for a serious professional recital...Overall, the piece is slow, simple, with beautiful interesting chords, and a bass part that is pure and sincere, but finds its meaning when nestled amongst the accompanying chords.'
