Bulgarian Dances is a free rhapsody, divided into four distinct movements based on famous Bulgarian folk songs. These songs have a very old tradition and stem from both the antique world of Byzantium and even earlier in the ancient and mysterious civilization of the Thrace region. In the beginning they were monodic songs, then diaphonic, with characteristic dissonances of major and minor seconds which make them unique. What also makes these songs so fascinating are seductive and complex irregular rhythms. The composer, while remaining faithful to the original spirit of the songs, has not hesitated to broaden the musical ideas, enriching them and making them more suitable tothe rich palette of colours of contemporary concert bands. A terrific modern addition to the band repertoire.

Bulgarian Dances is een vrije rapsodie in vier karakteristieke delen waarin verschillende Bulgaarse volksliederen zijn verwerkt. Franco Cesarini heeft de muzikale concepten aangepast aan het rijke klankenpalet van het harmnieorkest.

Bulgarian Dances ist eine freie Rhapsodie, unterteilt in vier einzelne Sätze aus mehreren berühmten bulgarischen Volksliedern. Charakteristische Dissonanzen der großen und kleinen Sekunde machen diese Lieder einzigartig. Faszinierend sind auch die komplexen unregelmäßigen Rhythmen. Franco Cesarini blieb zwar dem ursprünglichen Geist der Lieder treu, erweiterte und bereicherte aber zugleich die musikalischen Ideen und passte sie somit der großen Klangfarbenpalette moderner Blasorchester an.

Bulgarian Dances est une rhapsodie libre en quatre mouvements qui rassemble plusieurs chants traditionnels bulgares. Ces chants sont porteurs d’une tradition millénaire remontant aux sources de la mystérieuse civilisation des Thraces, puis l’antique Byzance. D’abord monodiques, puis diaphoniques, ils sont uniques par leurs dissonances. Et tout en restant fidèle l’esprit originel de ces chants, Franco Cesarini a développé et adapté les idées musicales la richesse de la palette sonore de l’Orchestre d’Harmonie d’aujourd’hui.

Bulgarian Dances è una rapsodia libera in quattro movimenti che raccoglie canti tradizionali bulgari. Questi canti sono testimoni di una tradizione millenaria che ha le sue radici nell’antico mondo di Bisanzio e più oltre ancora nell’antica e misteriosa civilt dei Traci. All’origine si trattava di canti monodici, poi diafonici, con caratteristiche dissonanze. Il compositore, pur restando fedele allo spirito originale dei canti, non ha esitato ad ampliare le idee musicali, arricchendole ed adeguandole alla ricca tavolozza di colori caratteristica dell’orchestra di fiati contemporanea.
