Bounce House is an up-tempo chart based on a D minor blues and a recurring bass ostinato. It features your soloist of choice at C (a separate sheet of changes is provided) and your drummer at D. Some general ensemble notes: Pay attention to the road map (2nd time only, 3X at C, 4X at D, staggered entrances at C and at D, etc.) Make sure you know when to play! Background horn kicks at B 2nd X should not overpower the melody. There are several sudden dynamic changes to catch. The quarter notes in the ostinato are always played long. Both repeats are good on the DS. The background for the drum solo at D gets pretty dense. There are a LOT of independent lines here, so count your part, play confidently, and all will be well. Coda: nothing radical, but count, and watch the dynamics. Drum solo at D: you have 4 repeats of a 16 bar phrase to solo over. Start with very busy time at first, then gradually play more soloistically. Catch the "four-and" kicks as much as possible. You might even lean towards a half-time rock feel towards the end. End BIG, but come in soft on the ride 7 before the DS. Rhythm section: sample piano voicings are included at B and C, but the pianist should comp with appropriate jazz rhythms. Bass: both written walking lines and changes are provided at B and C; use whichever you are most comfortable with. The other parts of the chart should be played as written. An optional vibes part is included. trumpet 1 to Bb at the end.5/4/4/G/P/B/D.
