It was first performed in the US by Libby Holman in the Broadway revue 'Three's a Crowd'. It was also the them tune for the boxing film noir drama 'Body and Soul' . It has been recorded by multitudes most notably by Frank Sinatra, Coleman Hawkins, Paul Whiteman and was the final recording of Amy Whitehouse as a duet with Tony Bennett.
I started arranging this piece in my trademark stride piano style and then got the idea of doing a Chopin-esque waltz version and alternating the two. It goes through 3 keys at various times - Db major, D major and Eb major with sudden changes in tempo. These are not written in stone and the performer should feel free to pick any tempo they feel comfortable with.
I do not include fingering, pedal or dynamics as no two teachers would agree on these and I prefer to leave it to the individual pianist to decide on such interpretation.
Please note it is a piano solo only and doesn't include other instruments that may feature on my YouTube videos. I write all my arrangements and compositions as piano solos first so they always have a full sound as such.
