Bernard Alt, Kobold, for double bass quartet, edited by Klaus Stoll.

Bernard Alt was born in 1903 in Silesia and was violinist in the Berlin Philharmonic from 1928 until his suicide in February 1945. His tenure in Berlin coincided almost exactly with that of

Wilhelm Fürtwangler.

Beginning in 1932 Alt experimented with the double bass quartet first with an arrangement of Edvard Grieg’s popular melody "Kobold", followed by a suite which, when published, became one of the classics of the bass quartet repertoire.

In the now 65 year long chronology of the bass quartet, this piece stands as the earliest original music written for the ensemble.

This product was created by a member of ArrangeMe, Hal Leonard’s global self-publishing community of independent composers, arrangers, and songwriters. ArrangeMe allows for the publication of unique arrangements of both popular titles and original compositions from a wide variety of voices and backgrounds.
