"Awakenings" is commissioned by Regina Yost.

"I'm dedicating "Awakenings" to the memory of Lois Schaefer, former Principal Piccolo of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She is the entire reason I wanted to play the piccolo. She just passed away."

Just as Ms.Schaefer was Regina’s guide for awakening, there were many scences that came up to my mind as I pondered on the "awakenings". I portrayed physical awakenings, then moved to musical awakenings and eventually ended with spiritual awakenings. In mov.5, "The Muse", I imagined little Regina as a child watching her teacher’s performance on TV with awe.

"We Did Not Know It" describes how awakening happens in our daily life. The Walk to Emmaus scene may look mundane, but the greatest awakening happened when they later recognized the resurrected Jesus. We just need to open our eyes.
