Ary Barroso’s masterpiece "Aquarela do Brasil" (Watercolor of Brazil), written in 1939 and known in the English-speaking world simply as "Brazil", is one of the most famous Brazilian songs of all time. This samba heralded a new genre in Brazilian Popular Music: the samba-exaltação, a samba exulting in the beauties of the land, characterized by a broad melody and large orchestration.
