Composed by Andrew M. Smith. Contemporary. Score and part. 10 pages. Andrew M. Smith #5374793. Published by Andrew M. Smith (A0.938729).

On John's Island in South Carolina resides one of the United States oldest living residence. At an estimated 1500 years old, the Angel Oak lived for a millennia before the colonization of the New World. It stands 66.5' tall, with a trunk that measures 28' in circumference. This ancient giant has provided shade to countless generations of people, and is breathtaking.

In 2015, Andrew M. Smith and his wife Emika took a road trip from New York down to South Carolina to visit the Angel Oak, where Andrew wrote this piece. He was moved to tears by its beauty, felt awed by its longevity, and hoped to convey those overwhelming feelings of wonderment with this meditative composition for clarinet and piano. .
