Published by David Heywood (A0.910430).Legendary Cuban conga drummer and bandleader Mongo Santamaria had a career that lasted almost 50 years, and he gave us some fantastic music, including one of the first tunes to bring together Afro-Cuban and American jazz styles, entitled Afro Blue. This arrangement stays true to the original feel, and incorporates jazz flute ensemble (piccolo, four C flutes, alto, and bass flutes) along with rhythm section (piano, drums, electric bass, and optional guitar). This arrangement features an intruiging reharmonization of the original melody, along with a stop-time soli section, and open solos for all instruments. All piano voicings, bass lines, and drum grooves are fully notated, for those whose Afro-Cuban chops are a bit rusty. This chart is not that hard to put together, and is a ton of fun to play!
