I was commissioned to write this this celebratory, joyous and energetic carol: 'The Festive Day Has Come' (Festa dies agitur) in 2008 for St. Alban's Choral Society as part of their annual Christmas carol concert. It is intended to be performed by a medium to large amateur SATB chorus and has a lively organ part. There is an extra (undemanding) part for a children's chorus (from the local school), but if such an extra chorus is not available, the part can be sung by a group of sopranos. Of the two versions presented here, the first is more of an introduction, and the second ('Reprise') is included if it is desired to round-off a sequence of carols with a rousing finale! This carol is attractive and exciting as a set piece in a concert and would work equally well in a church service.
