A Classic Scarlatti Edition That Retains Its Worth

Alessandro Longo was not only the author of the pioneering catalogue of Domenico Scarlatti`s keyboard works, he also edited these works long before Kirkpatrick attempted the task. Longo`s editions, including this very satisfying edition of some of the best of Scarlatti`s sonatas, retain their use, not as mere musicological curiosities, but as elegantly practical as well as well edited editions of the music. Longo was refreshingly free of Kirkpatrick`s sometimes annoying and fussy purism, yet he did full justice to what Scarlatti intended, editing it with practicality in mind for all keyboard players, professional or amateur, of the piano or of the harpsichord.
