Simpson was a 19th/20 Century Canadian pastor and writer. He also founded the Christian & Missionary Alliance. Little is known about Stocks except for the fact that she was a generation after Simpson. This hymn is ideal for invitations and Good Friday. Sections A and C are the verse. Sections B and D are the refrain. A modulation to a new key occurs at the end of section B with the aid of a French augmented sixth chord.
