As the title suggests the work contrasts fanfare like ideas with chorale like sections. The fanfare ideas dominate the faster outer sections, whilst the more lyrical & slightly slower chorale the central section. The writing for the three trumpets is at times quite florid & demanding. The work last a little over three and a half minutes.
