Published by Des Press (A0.1320983).Now and Then, "the last Beatles' song" was released with much hype in November 2023 and hit the top of the charts in several countries in just over a week, only 54 years after their last number one. This version of Now and Then was reconstructed by surviving Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr from a home-made demo tape by John Lennon. The other dead Beatle, George Harrison, is represented in guitar overdubs from an abandoned attempt to reconstruct the song in 1995. The sound quality of the demo tape was quite poor and AI technology was famously used to extract and restore Lennon's voice. Paul McCartney wrote and sang additional lyrics, as well as overdubbing Lennon's voice in places. This arrangement for string quartet is a relatively straight-forward idiomatic transcription without repeats. It's in the same tonality as the original recording, so you could even play along with that for fun. The level is intermediate; quickly rehearsed by professional quartets and playable by experienced students. Enjoy!
