The Salutation of the Dawn is the conluding movement from Lifesongs, which was commissioned by the Dallas Symphony Chorus in honor of Morton Meyerson for his 80th birthday.  With striking lyrics from 5th century Indian poet Kalidasa, an energetic and driving piano part (with optional parts for cello, glockenspiel, and suspended cymbal), this high-spirited setting is bursting with optimism and joy.  "Look to this day, for it is Life!"
