Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer is a popular Christmas song about a reindeer with a glowing red nose who helps Santa guide his sleigh on a foggy night. The song was based on a story written by Robert L. May in 1939 for a department store’s coloring book giveaway. The song was composed by Johnny Marks and recorded by Gene Autry in 1949, becoming a hit and spawning many adaptations and versions
