Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1289909).Gerry Rafferty wrote the 6th track on his 'City To City' album (which also contains the classic 'Baker Street') for his daughter, Martha, in 1978 (she was aged 9 at the time). In that decade, like a lot of songwriters and musicians, Rafferty was embroiled in legal disputes, and this necessitated his commuting back and forth to London from his native Glasgow, in Scotland. "Mattie's Rag" is a song about returning home to his family and spending more time with his daughter. Arranged for flexible ensemble and can be played with a minimum of five woodwind, brass and string players (plus percussion).
