This great Star Trek theme was originally arranged for trombone quartet, and we have performed it many times in that configuration.
The 2023 revision adds the string arpeggios from the original TV theme to the third trombone part. It’s hard for Trombone 3 to play all eight bars of that passage in one breath, but notes can be omitted if needed.
If you have more than four players, you can double the third part and stagger the breathing. Our sample recording in the YouTube video has two players on each part.
The string arpeggios won’t be too hard for accomplished players as they "lie" well on the instrument. Trombone 3 will need an F attachment. You'll also need Bass Trombone or Tuba on the fourth part.
An alternative third trombone part is provided that omits the string arpeggios completely, making the arrangement more approachable for younger musicians.
