A kelpie is a mythical creature from Scottish folklore, often depicted as a shape-shifting water spirit that inhabits rivers and streams.  It is said to be a powerful and malevolent creature, capable of taking on various forms, including that of a beautiful horse, to lure unsuspecting humans to their doom.  According to legend, anyone who attempts to ride the kelpie will find themselves stuck to its back, unable to dismount, and dragged to a watery grave.  Kelpies are also said to be able to transform into human form and lure people into the water, where they are drowned and devoured.
