Cowper was an English 18th Century poet and hymnist. Mason was an early 19th Century American banker, composer, and conductor. Cowper came up with the tune and Mason did some modifications with it. "There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Immanuel's veins..." discussses the cleansing power of Jesus' blood during the Crucifixion. This is a perfect piece for Good Friday, alter calls, and the like. Section A exposits the hymn. There is a modulation to a new key using a French augmented sixth chord. Section B then includes a descant by yours truly.
