Derek Hasted writes "This is a fantastic concert encore or a piece to close the first half of a concert.
This boisterous piece is from the film “Chocolat”. Commonly referred to as “Vianne Sets Up Shop”, it appears in this catalog as “Vianne Paints The Shop”.
My arrangement has tune, countermelody, strummed chords and bass-line, and was a firm favourite in Hampshire Guitar Orchestra’s many concerts.
This arrangement has two versions of the strummed chords - one is an easy rhythm, and one is a “tresillo” pattern of 3+3+2, and my suggested right hand strumming pattern, once learned, looks after all the accents automatically. But beware, just occasionally the pattern changes from "3+3+2+3+3+2" into "3+3+3+3+2+2" - a double tresillo.
In a large ensemble both versions can be played at the same time, and it gives a glorious stereo effect.
There are no dynamics - it tends to be at its best when it’s loud all the way through.
