'A Pint of Plain' is so often preformed in folk circles it has slipped into the the traditional category. The lyric, sometimes called ‘The Workman’s Friend’, was originally a poem by Brian O’Nolan.  A ‘pint of plain’ refers to a pint of Guiness - to distinguish it from other forms of stout - which are often stronger.  The words were put to music by Brendan and Fergus Gleeson.  Brendan Gleeson is an Irish actor and film director, best known for his performance as Alastor Moody in the Harry Potter films.
