The piece for solo acoustic guitar aims to capture the spirit of the great wide open spaces of the American Southwest. As a boy growing up in El Paso Texas in the 1950´s I spent a lot of time roaming around in the desert and traveling with my family to different parts of Texas and New Mexico. The piece trys to convey some of my memories of these early and lasting experiences.

The piece consists of four movements: a very slow introduction, a slightly faster second part, a faster third part, and a fast fourth part. The development through the movements could be seen as portraying the different parts of a day in the desert. The first part being the stillness just before daybreak, the second part the dawn, the third part the sunlight of the day, and the fourth part the afternoon and evening.

I chose the name Albuquerque for the piece as I always found the name mysterious when I was a boy and still associate it with the feeling of mystery and awe I hold for the natural beauty of the American Southwest.
