The melody for The Ash Grove, My Home is based upon a Welsh harp tune that likely dates back to the 16th century. Since that time, this melody has been set to various lyrics. The lyrics incorporated in this arrangement were written by John Oxenford and first published in 1862 in Volume 1 of Welsh Melodies, with Welsh and English Poetry.The ash tree is often referenced in Welsh history and mythology. This common tree is associated with healing, mystery, and enchantment. This inspiring text about an ash grove is timeless over 150 years later, and the tune that is over three-hundred years old still speaks to us today.
