The result is horrid keys for the Eb clarinet and alto sax and a mildly uncomfortable key for the bass clarinet. The page turns are impossible! This is full disclosure of the negatives. The saving glory is that it is one of Mendelssohn's best overtures. It captures the essence of the sea or in his own words "smells of engine oil and fish not counterpoint." Difficult but worth the effort. Enjoy.
