“Yamanobe no Michi” (road at the foot of a mountain) is located east of the Yamato basin. It is the oldest road in Japan and is about 35km (21.5 miles) long. The oldest market and positions used for trading merchandise over the centuries are found along this road. While composing this work the composer visualised the activity along “Yamanobe no Michi” imagining the solemn procession of the aristocracy, as well as the chaos that traffic often presents. He also kept in mind the tumultuous history that this road has seen and still represents today.

De 35 km lange Yamanobe no Michi (weg aan de voet van een berg) is de oudste weg van Japan, waarlangs ook de oudste marktplaatsen en handelslocaties te vinden zijn. Deze indrukwekkende en inspirerende concertmars weerspiegeltde huidige bedrijvigheid langs de Yamanobe no Michi, evenals de eeuwenoude geschiedenis die aan deze weg verbonden is.

Die 35 km lange Yamanobe no Michi ('Straße am Fuß eines Berges') ist die älteste Straße Japans, entlang derer die ältesten Märkte und Handelsplätze aus mehreren Jahrhunderten zu entdecken sind. Das Werk spiegelt die Aktivitäten entlang der Yamanobe no Michi wider. Sowohl die Vertonung einer feierlichen Prozession von Adligen als auch des unvermeidlichen Verkehrs-Chaos' füllen diese eindrucksvolle Reise durch die bewegte Geschichte dieser Straße mit Leben.
