This beautiful and haunting song is a well-known folk tune in Ireland, however, the author of the moving lyrics has not been clearly identified.

The song tells the story of a man who watches the woman he loves move away from him through the fair, saying that her family approves of him, and it won't be long until their wedding day. The woman inexplicably died before they were married. One night, the man dreamt that his love appeared to him as a ghost, telling him that it won't be long until their wedding day.

As an instrumental piece, the lyrics won't be sung to your audience, but it is important to understand the mood that the composer had in mind when writing this gem. This piece is melancholy and contemplative, like many Irish folk tunes are.

Scored for 4 Bb, alto, bass, and contrabass in Bb. There is an optional Eb soprano part that can be played in addition to, or in lieu of, the 1st Bb clarinet part.

Duration: 3.5 minutes.
