Published by HORYZIN Music (A0.1133890).Fanfare, Ch. 8 comes from the first movement of a larger work for Symphonic Orchestra, City in the Sky, Or. 4. The larger work depicts the imagery of a great city imagined by a young child as he stares into the clouds. The Fanfare is energetic, exciting, and uplifting, with a show-stopping end that will make an audience roar in approval. The Fanfare from “City in the Sky” begins with the Horn giving the initial hints of the melody, characterized in the whole piece by ascending fourths. As more instruments are introduced, each voice attempts to establish itself at the forefront, creating a chaotic section that feels like falling from the sky. Suddenly, the Horn emerges again in its single tone, establishing a new key center, and leading the piece in a very tonal way. The piece continues to build and build until the point of triumph and energy where the trombone melody is heard soaring over the ensemble amidst the driving arpeggios and bombastic percussion. The low brass finally give a call to the ensemble with the quartal arpeggio and the piece winds down for a glorious arrival to the end…to the City in the Sky.
