Composed by Ukrainian Lullaby. Arranged by Sarah Martinez. Children,Folk,Multicultural,Traditional,World. Octavo. 2 pages. Sarah Martinez #320281. Published by Sarah Martinez (A0.711707).

The first verse of this beautiful mixed-meter Ukrainian lullaby has been adapted for unison chorus and piano. English translation: The Dream passes by the window, And Sleep by the fence. The Dream asks Sleep: "Where should we rest tonight?" The first known publication of this lullaby was in 1837. George Gershwin's aria Summertime (1933), which was written for the 1934 opera Porgy and Bess, was inspired by a performance of this Ukrainian lullaby sung by the Koshetz Ukrainian National Choir at Carnegie Hall in New York in 1929. https://musictales.club/article/gershwins-summertime-most-recorded-song-draws-inspiration-ukrainian-lullaby-and-africanAs is typical of folk songs, there are many popular variations. Though the harmonies are different, the lyrics and melody for this variant can be heard in Квітка Цісик's 1980 recording: https://youtu.be/xg7T0QT8ZMs Other arrangements that include 2 additional verses are available for SA, SSA, and SAB choirs, both a cappella and with piano accompaniment. You may also find this song under the transliterated title "Oi Khodyt' Son Kolo Vikon" in other sources.
