Published by Richard Simm (S0.1188385).Grieg composed a great many short pieces for the piano, but not so many for piano duet. As an orchestrator, he had a wonderful gift for creating rich, expressive textures with small resources. This sad lullaby, sung as the closing item of his incidental music to Ibsen's play, was scored only for voice, along with muted strings and harp, yet for pianists who would like to play it, one piano doesn't really seem to do justice to those rich textures. This 2-piano arrangement by Richard Simm makes an effective and moving performing version.
