The popular Christmas song, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, was originally written by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane for the 1944 Christmas musical film, Meet Me in St. Louis. In the film, Judy Garland’s character sings the song, comforting her younger sister. However, the original lyrics had a depressing tone: "Have yourself a merry little Christmas, It may be your last, Next year we may all be living in the past." At Garland’s request, the lyrics were changed to reflect a more positive character. Since the Judy Garland version of the song, other singers such as Frank Sinatra have tweaked the lyrics even more to make the song more uplifting.

In this jazzy arrangement for clarinet quintet, the eighth notes should be swung. The melody is primarily in the Clarinet 1 part. Special attention should be paid to the rhythms, suspensions, and "crunchy" chords in the accompanying clarinet parts.
