My 2nd Symphony is in one continuous movement, but four clearly defined sections - slow-fast-slow-fast. The subtitle 'Variants' was perhaps rather apt with the Covid-19 pandemic ongoing during the symphony's composition. The initial idea on the violas provides the thematic basis for the entire Symphony, with various aspects of the initial idea being continually varied throughout the course of the work. Unusually for me the Symphony ends loudly almost brashly. The Symphony is scored for a large symphony orchestra and is around 28 minutes in duration.
