Dr. Josh Mize, director of the Pensacola Christian College Brass Ensemble, commissioned the work for the Spring 2020 chamber concert. It is reminiscent of an epic sci-fi story and depicts a group of space travelers flying into the "void," a great expanse of mystery and nothingness. The piece begins with a preparation for adventure, and the journey is underway. Later, the travelers contemplate and reflect on their bold mission as they fly through a nebula, and the piece ends with a triumphant victory as they return from the adventure.
Scored for 4 trumpets, 4 horns, four trombones (4th is bass trombone), tuba, timpani, snare drum, suspended cymbal.
