Long before Austin Powers hit the movie theaters, Quincy Jones was writing, arranging, and producing some of the best music of the last century, with more than 80 Grammy nominations, and 28 actual Grammys. Soul Bossa Nova is a blues with a bridge from one of his early projects entitled Big Band Bossa Nova, and remains one of my favorites. Lighten up and have some FUN with this intermediate-level bossa scored for two piccolos (of course), four C flutes, and alto and bass flutes, with guitar, piano, bass, and drums. This arrangement includes open solos, and an instrumental soli section that combines some classic bluesy melodies. And, like all my other charts, includes piano voicings, written bass lines, and notated drum grooves. Yeah, Baby!
