"Sandungueo" uses Caribbean and Hip-Hop dance motives to create a lively and festive soundscape. The opening "cencerro" and reggaeton rhythmic motives proclaimed by each instrument is significant in that it appropriates the works essence and soul. "Sandungueo" is a style of dance and party music associated with reggaeton. This reggaeton motive returns throughout the piece and culminates with it. The piece emulates a jazz ensemble where there are sections in which most instruments are called upon to solo against a rhythmic basso continuo or vamp. Latin and Hip-Hop rhythmic motives are prominent and integral to the work.
