Handel-Variationen Op. 24 by Johannes Brahms Chamber Music - Sheet Music

By Johannes Brahms

At an early age, Johannes Brahms showed an interest in the music of composers before him. In this context, he came across the variations and themes of George Frideric Handel which, in turn, inspired him to write an extensive work of variations for the piano. This new edition of the Wiener Urtext Edition is based on a meticulous comparison of autographs, first editions and personal copies. Brahms' autograph copy served as an essential corrective and subsequent corrections made by the composer in Max Kalbeck's personal copy were taken into account as well. With pristinely clear engraving, this edition is a perfect tool for studying Handel's masterpiece. For advanced players.

Wonderful score!!!

The Wiener Urtext Ausgabe can be sometimes a little more expensive but they are worth every penny. Not only the print quality is first class, but the commentaries too. Strange to confess ( ai am almost ashamed) but I played several times the Brahms-Handel and the Second Concerto and NEVER noticed that the first theme played by the French Horn is the same one from of the Handel theme...This and other fascinating informations are in the preface. I strongly reccomend it.
