In dieser Ausgabe wurden nun mittelschwere Originalkompositionen für die Flöte ohne Begleitung, die stilistisch und technisch auf die Musik jener Zeit vorbereiten, in größerer Zahl zusammengestellt. Diese Stücke stammen von französischen Komponisten, die Zeitgenossen von Couperin, Rameau, Vivaldi, Bach, Händel und Telemann gewesen waren. Es sind Vortragsstücke, zugleich aber auch Vorläufer der Etüde. Die Form des Rondeau und typische Tanzsätze der Zeit wurden bevorzugt.
