About Johann Pachelbel

(1653-1706) Baroque Period – Germany

Pachelbel was a German composer, organist, and teacher. He studied music at Altdorf and Regensburg and held posts as organist in Vienna, Stuttgart. In 1695, he was appointed organist at the St. Sebalduskirche in Nürnberg, where he remained until his death. He composed a large body of choir and chamber music. He also wrote keyboard music, especially for the organ. He had many pupils; one was Johann Christoph Bach, who was the brother of Johann Sebastian Bach. Today, Pachelbel is best known for the Canon in D.
