Solo piano - SMP Level 10 (Advanced)
Composed by Frederic Chopin (1810-1849). Edited by Willard A. Palmer. Masterworks; Piano Collection. Alfred Masterwork Edition. Form: Waltz. Romantic Period. Collection. With standard notation, fingerings, introductory text and thematic index (does not include words to the songs). 103 pages. Published by Alfred Music (AP.2483).

Item Number: AP.2483

ISBN 0739016741. 9x12 inches.

The 19 waltzes comprising this volume are among Chopin's most popular compositions. Composed over a period of 20 years (from 1827-1847), only eight waltzes were published during Chopin's lifetime. Many of the others were written as gifts for women with whom he was acquainted. This practical performing edition is clearly spaced for ease in reading and contains a thematic index.

This title has selections that range in difficulty from SMP Level 7-10.

I have written a review just now for an edition of the Schirmer's Ballades, but like I said there, I am a 14 year old Freshman who has been playing the piano for 11 years (and a teacher now). In my opinion, the Waltzes shouldn't be labeled as...

level 10, but maybe level 6-9? Like I said before, I've been playing for 11 years, so they are easier works for me. I still love this edition, and everything is really easy to read. I also would have liked it to be spiral-bound, but it really doesn't matter all that much because I could always photocopy them and use them for personal use. I really like the B Minor and C# Minor Waltzes though because they were my first Waltzes, and I also really like the CD.

  • August 06, 2008 Waltzes COMPLETE!!!!!

Waltzes by the master of waltzes, Chopin. This book contains ALL the waltzes that are available to buy. The fingering is good and overall a good edition. Maybe it isn't the most fancy and expensive edition, but it is pretty good.

I was very excited to find this music book a few months ago. I had a piano competition coming up and needed the original copy of the waltz I would be playing...The book was shipped to my house just in the nick of time! Now I am enjoying other...

Chopin waltzes from the book as well. As a Chopin lover, any of his music is delightful to find and obtain. I ended up winning the competition...much better than the potential disqualification I faced. Thank you!

  • May 17, 2007 Alfred Editions are highly recommended

Generally speaking, I am a fan of Alfred Editions piano publications because they are urtext (exactly as written by the composer). If editing has been done it's clearly differentiated.
