Turkey in the Straw is an old time favorite and this arrangement does a bang-up job of portraying the sound of the old Bluegrass jug bands. Every section has an equally fun nd important part to play, and there's a chance for the first violin to solo, too! This is a good old-fashioned hoedown for your orchestra, fun to play and entertaining for the audience as well. Duration: 2:44.
Turkey in the Straw is an old time favorite and this arrangement is meant to do nothing more that to portray the sound of the old Bluegrass jug bands. The bass is pizzicato most of the piece giving it this flavor. Every section has an important part to play. During the solo section there is a written out sample solo for the first violin, but use this only as a guide and have the students play what they want in this fiddle style solo. You can open up the section and play it as many times as you want and let other instruments in the orchestra play solos too. Just have fun with it! It has been my pleasure to have the opportunity to write this piece. I hope you and your students enjoy it and find it useful for your program. -Larry Clark Lakeland, FL 2010.
