Trombamania is a chronic mental disorder whose pathology remains as yet uncharted.
Most Freudians would agree however that the trumpet, for instance, is a symbol of masculinity and therefore virility. It is an appendage of the extrovert. It means amplification of the voice, domination of one's fellows, a childish gratification of aggressive instinct. It it also flashy, and somehow more glamorous than the violin and the flute.

If it is obvious why brass players are what they are, it remains a mystery why, when such a noble and perfect instrument as the bass trombone, for instance, exists, some people choose to play something else.
