This piece has a wistful, haunting melody that expresses the anthem's mood of quiet expectation. The refrain is a call to wait with the shepherds, angels, Wise Men, and the expectant parents for the arrival of God's promised one. Although the anthem is arranged for mixed voices, combined choirs could also sing it, with treble voices on one or both of the unison stanzas.
