Solo clarinet. Duration 5 minutes. Spirit of Light is inspired by Gregorian chants, specifically those heard in the "Votive Mass for the Holy Spirit." In Spirit of Light, special techniques and tone-color fingerings help to shape the music and contribute to the work’s texture. Possessing an improvisatory feeling, Spirit of Light is a stream of consciousness work that takes the listener on an inner journey of change, illuminating new possibilities. As with his other compositions, there is also an interpretive painting Spirit of Light, by Jeffrey Hoover.

Jeffrey Hoover's work- music ranging from soloist to symphony orchestra -has received recognition through the prestigious Trieste prize, awards from Mu Phi Epsilon, the Lancaster Fine Arts Festival, the L. Russolo competition, grants, publications, fellowships and more than 20 commissions. He is a member of the ACME roster of Mu Phi Epsilon, recognized for distinguished achievement as a composer.
