As there are so few compositions by the legendary pianist Glenn Gould, this arrangement of his bassoon sonata (FAG 23) in a setting for flute and piano is a welcome addition to the repertoire. The clear musical lines pay tribute to Johann Sebastian Bach - this sonata was written in 1950, the year of the 200th anniversary of Bach's death - and provide rich contrasts with motifs whose chromaticism is influenced by Arnold Schoenberg.
